January 2012 – Pinwheel on the Fence
February - Tam's Patch (8" finished)
The pattern is available here: Ours will be colored for Valentine's Day. Color 1 is any bright print, Color 2 is white or white-on-white, and Color 3 is bright pink. Those corners in bright pink will look like little hearts, especially if the blocks are set on point. I'll be bringing in some bright prints in January, so if you don't have any, please come to the Block of the Month table and shop my stash! |

| March - Crockett Cabin
In honor of Davy Crockett and the Battle of the Alamo (ending March 6, 1836), our March block will be Crockett Cabin. In honor of our foremothers and women’s history month, we will use muted dark colors and plaids and shirtings that were so popular with Gibson Girls around 1900: brown, indigo blue, rusty reds. Our blocks will look antique in shirtings and plaids. Shirtings were commonly used in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century. They are small regularly spaced designs, often in grey, blue, red, or black figures on a cream or white background. There are some fine examples here>> Reproduction Fabrics - early 20th century, 1900-1930 > fabric line: Devon Shirtings and here>> Reproduction Fabrics - early 20th century, 1900-1930 > fabric line: Shirtings I'm not suggesting you need to buy fabric. Feel free to use a solid white or cream as background. And I will have some shirtings and some plaids at the February meeting to share. If you have any shirtings and plaids to share also, please bring them to the Block of Month table at the meeting. If you need any fabric for the March block, please visit me at the Block of Month table. Extra fabric that isn't claimed by the end of the meeting will be donated to Philanthropy.
The pattern for the Crockett Cabin is shown on Block Central. On the directions it is shown in dark green with light green background. Please use a dark plaid instead of the solid dark green, and a shirting or solid cream or white for the background.
Bright blessings! |
