2008 Raffle Quilt

About Us

The Newtown Quilters' Guild (NQG) began in June, 1989 when a group of ten friends gathered together for an evening of sewing and socializing. This was the beginning of a monthly "stitch 'n sew" that would be held in various homes in Bucks County. At first, there wasn't an organized activity and many crafts were shared. As word spread and more joined this group, quilting was the one craft that interested everyone. By November of that year, the group numbered 33 and quickly outgrew family rooms. Since then, the NQG devised its name, logo and weathered various moves as the membership grew to 100 with members coming from Bucks County, Montgomery County, Philadelphia and New Jersey.

Currently, the NQG meets the third Tuesday of every month at the Lutheran Church of God's Love (also know as God’s Love), 791 Newtown-Yardley Road, Newtown, PA 18940. In the summer months of July and August we usually meet at the Addisville Reformed Church in Richboro, PA where there is air conditioning. Please check the Program link to see where we are meeting for a specific month. Our meetings usually consist of a speaker or a demonstration. The June meeting is our birthday month and we have strawberry shortcake to celebrate. The October meeting is our annual dinner. There are usually no speakers at this meeting.

Guests are welcome to all meetings for a $5.00 guest fee. We welcome quilters of all experience levels to join us, even if you are not a quilter and would like to become one.

PHILANTHROPY AND EDUCATION

The Newtown Quilters' Guild (NQG) has been an active and visible member of the Newtown community. The following is a list of some of the events we have participated in and contribute to:

Education Program: In 2007, we set up a "Story Book Quilts" program for local schools. We have made and donated quilts to go with storybooks about quilts for schools to educate children about the art of quilt making.

PLEASE NOTE: We have a Tuesday, philanthropy group that meets the first Tuesday of the month from September through June at Lutheran Church of God’s Love, in their trailer, from 10:00am to 2:00pm. Bring your own lunch. New members/guests to this group are always welcomed.
